Hello Everybody
Hope someone here can help me, and someone probably
has already asked this but could not find a answer so
will try..

When I want to do a scan disc before the Defrag it asks to scan disc
After I check both boxes to fix errors and recover bad
sectors it asks to reboot and I say Yes. Then comes the trouble
it reboots and gets into the second part of it and shuts down
reboots and gets that far again and just keeps doing this
over and over.....let it do it for two hours at one point and
no progress, same point every time....what do I have to fix ????

Also is it possible with windows Xp home to reinstall windows
and not lose all your info pictures text and things like that, know would
have to reset personal settings (tweaks) could do it with 98se and 95
But found only the reformat and that is not what I want to do....yet.

The reason I am trying all of this is having trouble loading some graphics
from web pages.

Hi, Harold.

First, in WinXP the name is ChkDsk, not ScanDisk. You are NOT really trying
to run ScanDisk, are you? HOW are you running ChkDsk - from a "DOS" window?
Or from My Computer? Or some other way?

Second, to reinstall WinXP without losing everything, look at this KB
article:
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q315341

As the article says, this is not intended as a time-saver; it will take
about as long as a clean install, and you will still need to visit Windows
Update as soon as you get back online (be sure your firewall and antivirus
are activated first!) to be sure that you have all the Service Packs and
other fixes. But it should preserve your installed applications and data.

Hi RC

By going to my computer right clicking on the drive and going to properties
and doing it under the tools tab and error checking clicking there and
checking the two boxes.
Then the fun begins

Thanks for the other info will play there later, just wish that I could save
the service packs
cause that is where I run into problems last time and still trying to fix
with graphics downloads

Just a side note. I can see two totally different
problems here. For the first see message from R. C.
White. For the second it sounds like a browser problem.
Try changing browser settings.

little note also have troubles seeing thing in e-mails with outlook express
also if it has graphics does always load the either.

You are giving information in drips and drabs. If you had initially said
that you HAD Norton 2003, I am sure that the recommendation to update to
2002 would not even have been mentioned.

Why don't you try again and give us ALL pertinent information about your
problem!
