Before installing sbs2000 I had small network running thru a hub with the
following config:
PC1 - XP Pro, used as a mini server.
PC2 - 6, XP home used a workstation.
I used a third party mail server for my mail which I also rand from PC1.
PC1 therefore served as a small file/mail/Internet server.
This setup was absolutely fine and no real problems where experienced.
We then had a burglary and PC 's 2 - 6 where stolen.
As a resut of this we suffered some major data loss on the PC's stolen,( my
fault as no proper backup procedure in place).
As a result I dediced to upgrade the network and purchased the following:
Asus Server with 2 x 1.7Mhz processorors with 1gig RAM with 120 gig HDD,
partitioned into 4 of 30 each.
4 X Asus DTPC with 1.7 Mhz processors and 128 meg RAM + 40gig HDD.
Ran the sbs2000 setup on the Server with no real problems .(SERVER)
Installed XP home on the DTPC's. (WS1,WS2,WS3,WS4)
At present I have the following problems ass. with the Network
SERVER can only connect to WS1 & WS3.
WS2-4 can connect to WS1 and SERVER.
WS1-4 can see all other PC in network neighbourhood but cannnot connect
them.
In addition, the network connection to the SERVER seems to be slow, and
every now and then the connection seems to be lost with WS2-4.
WS1 never seems to have any problems.
My limied knowlege on the subject, which has all been self taught, cannot
pin point the problem, as WS2-4 has the same config as WS1.
Why also can the server not connect to WS2-4?
I have tried reading up on the material available but have not had any
success. The material that comes with SBS2000 only explains different
concepts but does not really tackle Problem Solving, The MS recource Kit is
a waste of money, and I have now been waiting for 8 weeks for my order from
Amazon.com for the SBS2000 best Practices which seems highly rated, I cannot
however wait forever.
Any help will be appreciated.
