Itz Just Me

I have another thread going here on some problems I'm having getting a
new phone modem installed on a computer. Since this is a separate
issue, I'm starting a new thread.

I need to undo ALL the changes I've made to the computer since before
my first attempt to install a cheap, no-good-nik modem onto an older
computer I'm setting up for my parents to use online. They have never
been online and are pretty excited about doing it. I won't rewrite
all those issues.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is to use "system restore" and go
back to the only point I have, which is right after I did a clean
installation of XP last week. This will wipe out all the XP updates.
I'm trying to avoid redoing them as they might take a really long time
with a dial-up connection. I have cable at home. Can I save them
before I restore? If I take all the downloads and move them into MY
DOCUMENTS, can I reinstall them after I restore the system? I already
had an experience with that where I did a system restore on my new
computer and it took out more than programs I had installed! I didn't
buy enough memory for my new computer and I'm crashing/freezing left
and right. (I rodered a strip of 512MB and it will be here Monday.)

Are the updates exactly the same for XP Home and XP Pro? Perhaps I
can take all the updates on my own computer (Pro) and burn them on a
CD and install them that way on the other computer, XP Home?

If you saved them as downloads, then yes you can move them into My Documents
and rerun the installation of them after the restore. But if you just ran
Windows Update, you may not have downloaded files.
