Saving vs. Saving

What is the difference between saving your program via File > Save As on the
toolbar, and Save To Computer (down at the bottome where you can save to cd,
etc)? I have my project saved to cd and also have taken the File > Save As
option, but should I be doing something else, too?

Clicking File -> Save As only saves the project for future use. It does not
create a WMV or AVI video.
Saving the project is a good idea if you ever want to open it and make
changes without having to create it all over again.

So many users have been confused by this. Maybe in the next release,
Microsoft can change the verbage to something like "Create Movie File"
instead of another Save.

Hi mimi.....the 'file' 'save movie as' from the tool bar gives you the same
choices you see to the bottom left....i.e. save movie, save to cd, email etc.
This will actually SAVE your MOVIE. When you do a project 'save'
(already named) or a 'save as' where you can initially give your project a
name, it saves all of the elements of your movie (i.e. your
effects/transitions/titles etc.)....it is NOT a save movie, but just the
elements which are editable when you 'open project' again to change any of
the elements. Once your MOVIE is saved, you cannot bring it back in and
chance any of those elements such as transitions or effects etc. So, listen
wojo, he know, dis be a goooood idea to save your project periodically.

So, now that is the first step to what I am going to drive everybody crazy
with. I was putting this off until my project was done, but that will be
soon. I have no idea how to save this to dvd in order to play it on my tv -
I've asked this before and read lots of q's on it, but the answers are over
my head and there are way too many variances. Now I know that if I save it
to hard drive it will become a .avi file. I don't have a cd burner on my
computer, but my son does, so what are the steps I will take? Please be very
detailed and patient when answering!

You have 2 options when you save your movie.
If you use the default it will save it as a .WMV file but if you click on
the "Other Settings" radio button and then the arrow next to the dropdown
list you can then select "DV-AVI (NTSC)" from the list and save your movie
in the recommended DV-AVI format.
Here's where it will get tricky in your case however since you apparently
need to transfer the movie file to your sons computer. DV-AVI creates very
large files, transferring to your sons computer via email will be next to
impossible, so saving in a smaller lower quality .WMV file may be advisable
in your case.
I don't know how you plan to get the file(s) to his computer so I will now
skip to the part where you already somehow managed that task. Now your son
needs a DVD authoring program such as one of the many listed on my website
in the "DVD Programs" section:
http://www.remember-christopher.dostweb.com/Wojo's_Place/
You said your son has a CD burner which will work since these programs can
create what is called a VCD. A VCD is kind of like a mini DVD. It will play
on most DVD players but is lower quality than a DVD. But if your son
actually has a DVD burner and not just a CD burner then these programs will
also allow you to create a complete DVD with menus etc...
All the programs listed on my website have full working free trial versions
available with the exception of Nero's Nero Vision Express so you should be
up and running as soon as you manage to get the video to your sons computer.

Now wait a minute...the choices are: Save Project, Save Project As, or Save
Movie File (all on the File toolbar). Which saves it to an .avi file, and
which lets me edit? You definitely answered my question, but not with the
same options that are on the file toolbar. You should know by now that you
have to be very explicit with me!!! Looking forward to more help as my movie
nears completion (and deadline)! Thanks!
