Saving to USB removable disc

Hi,
Created movie. I want to burn it on a dvd but have to burn it at a friends
place since I dont have a burner. Bought a USB device and saved it. Took it
to friends place and it saved the LINK to wmmp; file is only 1034kb. When I
load it on another computer, it doesn't work obviously because that computer
doesn't have my pictures to load. It just links us to the site. So it appears
that unless all my picutres are store in wmmp on someone else's computer I
cant do this?? Or of course unless I buy a burner in which case I may as well
by another pc...
This was suppose to be for someone's upcoming Bday present. Sending it by
emailing doesn't cut it since the pictures are so small. I want to play it on
a tv.
Can it be done? Can it be saved in such a way that it actually saves the
movie and not just the link? The picutres all come up as red X's on any other
pc since the photos arent accessible.
I'm running out of options and time!
Note that it plays on my own pc from the removable drive so I know that
something is actually being saved..

continued...
Ok ..So I was saving by only using the save icon on the toolbar maybe thats
way its only saving the link. So, I looked on the left and found the "save to
computer" link. I did that and chose my save location. Now its saving
something like cant save your project verify that the source of the file is
still available and that you have enough mem etc> It said the file was 30.4mg
and space available was 7.0gb so presumably I have enough space? I tried
creating a new folder and still it wont save. Hmmm

Apparently you are trying to work with the
..mswmm project file and you do not have
the source files on your friend's computer.

If you re-open the project in Movie Maker
on the computer that created it and save
it as a movie file....File / Save Movie File...
or type...Ctrl / P...This will give you a .wmv
movie file that you can take to a different
computer. Also you could save in the
DV-AVI format if you choose:

How do I save my movie as a
DV-AVI file in Movie Maker?

Hi John,
Thanks for the prompt and informative reply.
I did as you suggested (excellent tutorial by the way) however, oh yes, the
dreaded however...whether I attempt to save as a .wmp or a dv-avi via the
drop down, I get the following message for both:
"...cannot save the file to the specified location, verify that the source
files used in the movie are still available, that the save location is still
available and there is enough disc space available and retry"...
Well..of course the source files are still available they are here on my
computer???
As for space, it says file size 1034mg free space 7.65Gb
I'm so lost and discouraged. I tried saving on desktop and i tried saving in
"my videos" which is empty.
Any other thoughts?

I see this a lot and am never sure what the
cause is. Maybe it's an issue with one or
more of the files you used to create the movie.

Have a look at the following site:

John has probably got this one right.
This message is often the result of an unsupported file. What filetypes
(extensions) are in your project?
Try to save it to your harddrive and see if it saves and maybe then moving
it to the USB drive.
I can tell you though that saving as a DV-AVI will almost certainly result
in a file that is more than 7GB so WMV is probably what you will need to
use.

I assume your WMM project file (.mswmm) is saved on a USB flash "stick". To
rule out the "stick" as being the problem.......

1) Open the WMM project file (.mswmm) from the "stick" and assuming that
there are no red "X"'s in the timeline (that would indicate 1 or more of the
source file(s) has been moved or deleted) do a "save as", to save the WMM
project file (with links to the source files intact) to a location on your
hard drive (eg: the folder "My Videos" would be your C:/drive).

2) Then try. FILE>SAVE MOVIE FILE and select the "My Videos" folder..

If you still get an error that there is not enough disk space, how much free
space do you have on your C:/drive? Do you have other drives with free space?
how much free space? Look at the timeline, how long is the movie?

You are aware that in order to make a DVD that will play in a conventional
DVD player hooked up to a TV, you will still have to run your finished movie
file through DVD editing/authoring software that will make more that just
"data" DVD's. If you simply burn the movie you make to a DVD it won't play in
any DVD player anywhere.

FYI - It would sure make it easier to help you if you took the time to type
extensions correctly. At one point you indicated 1034kb then in another
1034mg. Assuming mg means mb, there is over 1GB difference between 1034 kb
and 1034 mb. We would assume the project file is 1034kb and the movie file
will be 1034 mb. Bottom line, since we're taking the time to help you, please
take the time to help us help you.

NOTEKY

Thanks everyone for replying.
Nokety your point is made.
I am a total novice at this and frankly the whole world of mb, gb, ect is
foreign to me. Took my long enough just to find this site and figure out how
to post a message!

Anyways- again, thank you. I will try what you propose and check back with
results.

ps: I'll work on getting my bytes and gigs or whatever sorted out!
