This perhaps sounds a silly question and forgive me if it has been asnwererd
before...

Is it possible to save Windows Movie Maker files on to a DVD/CD and play it
back on your DVD player? I seem unable to do this. I can only save the file
as a .wmv or .mswmm file.

I am however able to play back the content in Windows Media Player.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Jack, remember the .mswmm file is merely the project....the wmv file is your
resulting MOVIE. That movie file is what you would be converting and
burning to a dvd. You need third party software, a dvd burner, and a blank
dvd to do it (more if you make coasters the first few times..ha ha) Some
have trials which you can download...I like Ulead's Movie Factory which can
do the trial and find at www.ulead.com. If you buy it, the cost is $49.95.
Sonic has several products...MyDVD is good also, and I think is about the
same price. I also use AVS Video Converter, which has a trial (cost $29.95)
at www.avsmedia.com. I sound like a broken record recommending this all the
time, but it is a great tool for converting, editing, audio, ripping and so
on. Good luck.

Jack, I forgot to mention that if you only have a cd burner, that those
programs will burn cd's also. You can either make a video cd (vcd 320x240)
or a super video cd (svcd 480x480) which often will play on newer dvd
players. The other option is to merely 'save' your video on a cd as an
image file (file as on your drive) and that can be copied or played on other
computers. Remember...no question is silly in this room!! ha ha ha

Thanks dickmr - I'm going to look at it later tonight and see if I can do
something with it.

I've been using AVS Video Converter and it's been working great until this
last time. Once I get my movie done, I tried to save it to my computer (like
always) and I get an error message. I understand I have to save it to my
computer BEFORE I can use the AVS Converter???

Hmmm...how do you mean? Yes, you have to have a MOVIE file if you want to
use AVS Video Converter to convert it to mpeg and burn a dvd...for best
quality save your movie in DV-AVI (or papajohns high def profile if you made
a slideshow). You would, however, use it to convert to an appropriate
format if the movie (from internet or other source) you have is initially an
mpeg2 or other incompatible file type. I hope that makes sense...your
statement of 'I understand I have to save it to my computer BEFORE I can use
the AVS Converter' is sorta strange. If you are making a movie, of course,
you have to save it as a MOVIE before you could convert it or make any type
of disc, otherwise what would you use? Don't give up, this stuff is more
understandable if you make a lot of mistakes first. Good luck!

Folks

Many thanks to you all - I've finally managed to do it. Not sure where I
was going wrong before but it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks again.

J.
