saving to AVI and getting degraded audio

Cliff

I am creating a slide-show for my sons teacher.
I'm running windows xp media, dell 8300, 3.0 ghz, 1 gig
ram, 400 gig hard drive. Creating with MM2 and Sonic's
record now.

Problem:

While saving to dv-avi to get the best quality to burn to
dvd, the audio after burning to dvd is degraded with pops
and lost of clarity sometimes sounding like it's all
reverb.
I've tried the Highest quality WMV which fixed the audio
(sounds terrific) except there's a big lost in picture
quality. Where is the Happy medium? Can I improve on the
audio for the AVI? While creating I've tried MP3s and Wav
formats, tried different songs, all with the same results.

Hello there

Prior to burning to DVD is the audio/video quality good? (in the DV-AVI
file)

What software are you using to burn the DVD?

MP3 audio does not work all that well in Movie Maker, it is far better to
use WAV

Prior to burning, I can already hear some degrading as compared to the audio while creating the project
As to the software I'm Using Sonic My DVD (record now). I also have Nero Burning rom 6.

It's when I put it to the final test (Dvd player attached to my TV) is whe
I get dissapointed. When I preview it in the project it's flawless.

Hi Cliff,

What setting are you saving the movie to from Movie Maker before you burn in
the other app? What format was the audio (if it was a song and not just the
audio from your DV tape)

(WMV/bitrate? or AVI?)

thanks,

Hello There,

I'm wondering if you ...

1) definitely saved the output from Movie Maker as DV-AVI, or,

2) have you perhaps used a custom config where perhaps the audio data rate
was less than you really wanted, or,

3) have you been using MP3 audio files (Movie Maker does not work too well
with them)

4) Last & maybe least likely, do you have a codec issue. If you have, a
program called Rename Codecs on my web site might fix the issue for you. If
you decide to check this one out have a quick look at the FAQ section on
Rename Codecs...it will show you how it works.

If the answer is "None of the Above" then I'm stumped for the time being at
least.

If everything fails and provided you have enough time, I would be happy for
you to either e-mail me the whole project or send it on a CD and I will see
if I can discover the problem for you. I have a 1meg broadband so it would
not be a problem at my end.

PS....

I'm starting to believe that it's in the burning process
I've wasted 4 discs already but one came out almost perfect
I'd like to get a new finishing program. Got any suggestions?

Thanks John
the answers are
Yes - I've saved it to dvd-avi (numerous times
no - I didn't play with custom configs and especially not the audi
no - i didn't use MP3 files (don't care for them
and when I save it to WMV file and then burn to DVD the audio is supe
??? - The codec issue is new to me and sounds very promising thanks Joh
I'll check it out

Hello again,

OK. Well I have tried something called Power DVD Creator (or something like
that, and I did not care for it much) I have used Nero and Easy CD and did
not like the options on them very much...other seem to like the Nero
option.

I ended up buying Dazzle DVD Complete. The basic functionality is quite
good and it makes excellent DVD's. Never lost one yet. As I became more
used to it I discovered that you can redo all of the menu's offered so as
to suit your personal tastes, basically you take a theme, wipe it and
superimpose your own. I have experimented with it and it works well. The
default themes are good enough for me and have impressed those who have
seen them. So that's good enough for me.

The problem might be getting a copy. This because Pinnacle bought out
Dazzle and dropped all of the Dazzle software in favour of their own.

Hello There,

To all of you who sent emails about the website, and for any of you who
might wonder what's going on....I took an overdose of idiot pills some time
this afternoon....and deleted most of the website from the server!!! I
actually sat there watching one directory after another vanish and thinking
"that seems to be taking rather a long time" Well it took long enough for
most of the site to disappear.

The complete web site is now uploading, as it is rather large this will
take some time to achieve So please hang on...service will be resumed as
soon as the idiots pills wear off!
