Saving system restore points

I just reinstalled Vista. It took me hours! I now have it just the way I want
it. I know that I can create a manual restore point. I also know that as the
space for storing restore points fills up, the oldest restore points are
deleted. Is it possible to back up the restore points to an external hard
drive or burn them to disk so I can reinstall the restore points anytime that
I want to? Is it possible to delete individual restore points? What I'd like
to do is create a manual restore point & name it, say, "Just the way I want
it!", delete the restore points previous to the manual restore point & make
the manual restore point the first restore point & save it so that it won't
be deleted no matter how old it is. That way, I can go back to the beginning
without having to spend hours going thru the whole restore process all over
again.

Thank you.

I don't think a restore point is your answer, as ,AFAIK, there's no tool to
directly manipulate/save them.
I'd go for taking a image of the system partition (usually C:) with
something like Acronis TrueImage, Ghost or something from here
http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/backupandimage.shtml

I read somewhere that the restore points are saved in the System Volume
Information folder & Windows won't let you view them even if hidden files &
folders are displayed. This is true, because when I viewed those folders,
they were empty even though there were a lot of restore points. Seems to me
that there would be a Registry hack or something. Oh well, I'll have to use
Acronis True Image!

Thank you.

Nope, didn't know such a thing existed..

(I don't use Vista much, it's on my laptop, but that is used almost only
when way, and then only for specific apps (like Darts statistics and such)

I'd like to upgrade both desktop and laptop to Win7 sometime this year, but
that's a question of ??? (Family Pack coming later this year to Finland
(maybe))..

You put the copy of my post after your signature, which is why it got
lost from this reply, but FYI, the utility I mentioned, Shadow Explorer,
can be found at

http://www.shadowexplorer.com/

I suggest that you (& anyone else reading this) look at the site for
education, even if you don't want the advantage of having the software.

PS: it's a good (and polite) idea not put the quoted text after your
signature - or equivalently, not to put your signature ahead of the
quoted reply.
