Saving settings on shutdown now takes an eternity - about 6 minutes.
Does anyone know why?
Thanks.

If you're in a domain environment with a roaming profile then
your network administrator should be able to resolve this
issue.

prior to SP4 the advise was to remove update 329170 but it is built into
SP4 now.

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration> Administrative
Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user profile ...
set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

the gpedit.msc fix does not resolve the event viewer error but stop the
slow shutdown.

Another workaround that can work is to do a
net stop spooler
before shutdown.

Hope that helps

Hi Steve, gee, thank you for your solution and advice!

No, "Pegasus", I am not in any network environment apart from my home
network on which I have my desktop and laptop (connected by ethernet
cable with the WLAN disabled, sorry hackers). So, no I do not have a
roaming profile, nor do I have access to any "network administrator"
to resolve my question. I am my own network administrator - started
years ago on Banyan VINES, then the co I worked for threw out the
Rolls-Royce and got a beat up VW Beetle called Novell Netware!

So thanks, Steve, I will do "net stop spooler" just before shutting
down. I'll be sure to look up gwynfryn.co.uk to see what your co is
all about, because you deserve a raise!

Thanks Ian, glad to have helped. The website is a personal one not my
employers :)
