There are a number of 'features' in XP that I always want to change or
disable that require editing registry values (disabling the irritating
'balloon help' or 'tooltips' and increasing the number of Recent Documents
are two that spring to mind.

Editing the necessary values is easy, but since this is something I want to
do for every installation, I'd like to be able to save the modified values
and import them in one go. This would save time and streamline the
customisation process.

Is it possible?

How can I do this?

Simply export the keys/values to a .Reg file. Once collected, merge
all the individual files into a single .Reg. Use only the 1st keyword
entry "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00". Kelly's Korner has
available many common Registry mods/fixes in .Reg format available
for download:

Nearly all registry entries can be changed with a script and even with
normal os settings. It's unnecessay to directly change the registry and
dangerous for those not knowledgeable about it, as in Importing a full
registry into an existing one and so on. That specifically applies to the
examples given, too; use the settings features in XP for those changes.
