my students are making slideshow movies and one student is trying to save the
completed project to computer and then to CD however a message comes up about
source files that have been moved or deleted or edited. How can i fix this,
as I'm not exactly sure what they are talking about when the say source files.

it means that the pictures located within the movie have been moved or
deleted out of the original file you imported them from. Unfortunately, you
may have to start all over if all were removed. If you only moved a few,
delete them from the timeline and re-import the pictures again and replace
the new import into the timeline.

The .mswmm project file does not include the source files...
pictures, video clips, music files, etc...

If you wish to move the project to a different computer
and continue editing it...you must also move all the source
files. When you open the project in Movie Maker you will
see Red Xs...if you right click the Red Xs you may be able
to browse to the source files and re-establish the link.

If you wish to share the project with others for viewing...
save it in a movie format...wmv or .avi.

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
