Saving ppt file deletes the file

When some of my students try to save a .ppt file into
their home directory they receive an error that reads like
this.

The file cannot be saved right now because the file is
loaded by another user at the moment. You can wait a few
moments and try to save again or you can cancel this save
and resave using a different file name.

(there are two choices displayed)

Try again and Cancel

The Try again choice does not do anything and the cancel
choice gaves the following message.

Powerpoint found an error it can't correct and will
shutdown Runtime error! Program...abnormal program
termination.

This is happening in one computer lab. The computers are
running W2K, Office XP. Thanks

Have your students save the file to a *new name* using File > Save As. You
apparently have them sharing the same file and PowerPoint won't let you
modify a file that someone is currently viewing or working on. I can't tell
you why the "Cancel" is causing the abort, but the Save As will avoid
getting the original message.
