saving pics in IE

I don't know what has changed? I could save pics from IE
and they would be jpeg now everytime I try to save they
are bitmap and I must name the pic. If it was a jpeg I was
saving it would save as a jpeg and have the name from the
internet. So confused does anyone know what to do? Oh I
am on XP with version 9 IE with all the updates.
