I plan on doing a clean install of XP Pro. If I do an "Export" of my mail
and newsgroup accounts, will I be able to fully recover everything if I do
an "Import" after the clean install?

Suggestions please.

Exporting the account alone will not save your settings except for the
account itself.

Take a look at this guide on how to backup most of it:

Good luck.

The Export function from Tools, Accounts, can be very helpful for saving the
account *settings*. It creates an AIF file that is imported to quickly
re-create an account. I have seen this not save the password.

It does not save *any* mail or addresses. Those must be located and saved
*separately*. Go to Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder to locate
the mail store, and open the address book and use Help, About to view the
full name and location of the address book. In both cases, these will be
folders ever so helpfully marked as hidden.

Save the entire mail store folder, as all the files are needed. Note that
if you sorted addresses by folders, rather than groups, all folders will be
lost.
