Please note that MSWMM and WMV are two different things. MSWMM is the
extension used for the Movie Maker "Project" file. The project is just a set
of instructions and ereferneces to the media files. While WMV is the
extension used for a video file generated by Movie Maker. It contains the
final movie (as a sequence of consecutieve pictures)...
The project file can only be opened by Movie Maker. While the video file
(WMV) can be opened by many programs. Also you may save the project file as
an AVI file from Movie maker.
To save the project as movie, use menu File -> "Save MOVIE As"
or press key Ctrl-P
or use the "Save to my computer" under "Finish Movie" step on the left
hand task bar.
In the Save Movie wizard, first screen allows you to select a name for
the saved movie and the next screen is "Movie Settings". Click on "Show
more options..." and you will have all the different options to select.
Select DV AVI from the drop down box and complete the remaining steps.

sorry to intrude on this, but unfortunately I cannot save my files to anything other than MSWMM! Thats all I seem to have as an option on my drop down list. do you know why? I too would like to be able to play my DVD/CD on a normal standard DVD player
