Saving Metadata in Archives

Does anyone know of a way to retain the metadata in a PST file? I need to
be able to somehow search the data in the archive, without actually pulling
the archive into Outlook if it all possible.

A workaround solution for me, if possible...would be to able to pull the
archive file into Outlook from a CD. As it stands now, all I think I can do
is to drag the archive from the CD to my hard drive or network drive, and
then pull it into Outlook. If I could just read it directly from the CD
somehow that might alliviate the problem of having to be able to search the
metadata from outside the archive. Any help on this matter would be
appriciated.

CDs are read only - Outlook needs read/write access to .pst files. You
will have to open the .pst file to access its contents - no other way that I
am aware of exists.
