When I right click on a picture file to save it no longer
recognizes the name of the file (comes up untitled) and
only gives you the option of "bmp" as the file type. Was
working fine. Does anyone know a way to resolve?

I'm adding my two cents to this discussion because I've
noticed other people are having similar problems using IE 6
and my mom/dad are one of them.

About a month ago I went ahead and updated my parents pc.
They are running W98 and that is all they really need. At
the time they had IE 4x (I believe) and part of the
update/patching involved getting the IE 6 browser and SP1.

Since that time when my dad tries to save a specific file
from a ham radio site the file will not save correctly.
The name of the actual file is amsat.all and it is a text
file but the programs which read this file cannot read it
if it has the .txt extension. So, when my dad has to save
the file it should be saved as amsat.all.

In the past, before the upgrade, he would right-click, Save
As, make sure the file name was correct and change the File
Type dropdown from Text File to All Files. No problem.

Now, since the upgrade/patches he can still do the same
process but even though he selects File Type as All Files
it will save the file name with the .txt extension. In
fact the full name of the file once saved is amsat.all..txt
(yes, two periods).

I've shown him how to rename the file correctly but he
shouldn't have to. When he says File Type All Files it
should leave the file name alone. It appears that his
system is no longer recognizing the choice that is being
made. I have not had time to see if saving other files
(pdf, zip, etc) are having this same problem or not.

Interestingly I am using the same version of IE at work and
I am able to save the file correctly so it is obviously
something on his system. However, from reading these
forums it appears that other people are having similar
problems even though they are running 2K and XP.

I know MSFT has other things on their mind but a quick look
at this issue seems to be in order.

Thank You.. It worked

Paul,
Most likely you need to open IE and go to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS
and on the General Tab at the top, click DELETE FILES button and when
the pop up window shows up, put a check in DELETE OFFLINE CONTENT
and hit OK. This should clear up your problem. If not, post back to this
same thread for more ideas.
