I am new to Office. I am a student who created a doc in office 2007 to send
to my instructor via email. She cannot open it without it just being saved
in rtf. There is a doc.x after that. How can I get that removed? I sound
stupid to you guys I know but I am 62 and not raised on a computer.

You're in the wrong place, this group is for Microsoft Access, a database
program. For future reference you probably want a group for Microsoft Word.

However, the problem here appears to be that you are creating a Word 2007
file (docx), but your instructor has an earlier version of Word which cannot
read 2007 (docx) files. The solution is to open up your document in Word
2007, click on the Office button (the pizza thing in the top left corner),
and choose "Save As...". From the menu that appears, choose "Word 97-2003
Document", and proceed with the save.

This will create a document that pretty much any version of Word can open.
