I don't think that is what he is talking about. It sounds to me like
any file he saves to his hard drive, like even a JPG picture file, is
saving as read only. And thus he cannot erase it easily or whatever.

At least that's what I think - please excuse me if I am off on this,
as I am not nearly knowledgeable enough on XP.

I assume by the title of your post that you are attempting to change the attribute of a file when copying it to CD\R or CD\RW. What Kelly is trying to tell you is that Read Only=Read only memory(ROM) and is what the file should be. This is the proper setting. Why don't you simply copy a file to a CD and then once you close whatever app you are using to write to a CD and then go>start\my computer and double click your CD Drive that you copied the file to and double click it to open it and see if the file is there. Then double click the file to open it and look what's in there and then if that works as it should then right click on it and then go>send to and click My Documents and then close out of here and open My Documents and see if it copied back to the HDD properly. Good luc

I had a similar problem. The culprit was the folder I was saving to. It was not allowing users to change the file. Checked that box & voila no "access denied" message. I was blaming it on the original file attributes.

I also meant to ask if the "Read Only" box has a check mark in it or is it just highlighted in green? The highlighted box is a suggestion, not an indication of a read only file.
