Hello,

I have the following question. Everytime someone tries to save a word
template document (eg template.DOT), IE6 changes the extension to .doc (eg
template.DOC).
It's kind of booring to chage it manually each time. Does anyone know how to
fix this? I tried it on many machines - Win2k, XP SP1 and SP2. It always
insists to change it to .DOC. Try it yourself.

Grrrrr :(((

I'm not sure if this will help at all but I just tried. I went here:

http://www.gosw.gov.uk/Show_DataFile.asp?FileID=284

(I don't really WANT that but I figured I'd give it a try anyhow.)

It saved as a .dot file here. So, what happens if you "save as" and try it?
Have you any software that might be filtering it automatically at, say, the
network level like a firewall or the like? Maybe some AV software that
thinks it should arbitrarily alter file extensions to protect your users
from opening potentially harmful files? (I'm not really sure if you even CAN
have a virus or the like in a template file but who knows?) Maybe someone's
played around with the settings in IE itself? Try resetting them perhaps?
I'm really grasping for straws here as you can probably tell. Another,
final, idea would be if you get no answer here you could try one of the
Office groups or the like.

Grrr,

I just found out that this happens only on our internal web servers. It
works fine ouside the firewalls. Duh.
Thanks for the point.

In that case I'm quite happy to tell you that I've absolutely no clue why
that happens. <g>
