Is there an easy way to save bookmarks in one browser for use by the other,
and vice-versa?

Thanks. Before I do this, can this be used on an ongoing basis
(incrementally, or replacement) to keep them synchronized?

You might find it easier to use the XP Powertool "SyncToy"

Won't work unfortunately - Firefox keeps all its bookmarks in one html
document whereas Favorites are individual files....
