saving as DV-AVI file

I am trying to burn my movie maker 2 movie onto a DVD to play on my
television. I read and earlier post that said to "save your movies as DV-AVI
files from Movie Maker, and then use those files in your DVD
authoring/burning software.... whatever came with your DVD burner." When I
have my project open and go to "save project as" there is only the one choice
of a movie maker file. How do I or can I save it in the DV-AVI format?

Saving your project is not the same as saving your movie. I am a beginner
myself, to a certain extent, and I see this question over and over and I can
certainly understand why it confuses people. I'd like to take a stab at
explaining it. Ignore me if you like. LOL

Let's say you are baking a cake. You get all the ingredients together in the
pan, but before you can bake the cake, you get called away so you put the
pan with the batter inside into the fridge for a bit. That's saving your
project. When you save your project, you are saving all the ingredients you
are working with but they aren't a cake yet.

Saving the movie is equivalent to putting the cake in the oven. Only when it
emerges from that process is it a cake.

Ok, I tried....Was that as clear as mud? LOL

==================================
File / Save Movie File / My Computer / Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location / Next /
Show More Choices / Other Settings / open
the drop window and choose...DV-AVI / Next /
wait while the movie is saved / Finish.

WMM2 has a complete LIST of SAVE options..DV-avi and also a NTSC(avi)which I
think is basically the same..but..to make a DVD on Blank Media you must have
the compression of MPEG-2..which will also allow audio in the MP3 or WINDOWS
Media File(wma)..30-Frames per second is a very good ITEM to notice in your
SAVE File Choice..you can use a 10-GB(dv-avi)File to compress..any Higher and
it won't fit on a Blank Disk..I make 50-minute movies to have a faster
completion time..but you can go as High as 1-hour 13-minutes
w/safety..also..there are two types of Blank media in DVD..PLUS and
DASH..PLUS is for playback on a PC....DASH is for playback on a Home
Player....your BURNER must have a designation for the Blank Used..the new DL
is a PLUS Type....go w/DASH..it plays on BOTH----PC and Home Player....so
after all the Blah-Blah...look for your Drop Down Menu of CHOICES...WINDOWS
Media Video File is good also..30 Frames per second is best....keep your
Files Video Time below 1-hour 13-minutes..you should have no problems.

Some of the solutions in this newsgroup are worth saving in hard copy. I
tried to print the discussion threads only but got the whole screen display.
Not useful. Any way to print only the discussion threads in pinter friendly
way?

Howdy...OK its the next morning and I think what Kirsten was doing is SAVE
AS:which activates the MSMM2 to use its Project saving mode..File Extension
msmm2--->in FINISH MOVIE...bottom of the TASK Window...there are a couple of
ITEMS to choose from:::the Save to CD(which never works)...Save to my
Computer(That's the one)--->CLICK...three LINKS appear....I think by DEFAULT
"Best" is chosen for FILE SIZE...that's really your choice for EXPORT to
EMAIL..No.2 Choice is the DV-avi for Sending back to your PalmCorder(that's a
good choice for DV-avi...then there is the Third Choice of "more
choices"....CLICK and you get about 40-choices...there is a
NTSC(avi)<<----that should be OK....the rest will need experiment....what you
get is a Large File that will Defrag.....which helps "smooth" some small
"jitter" in your Movie Show.....prior to any Final Operation in a more
Refined Author/Editing Software....Final File is a mpeg-2(compression)w/a
mp3(audio compression)or the .wma(less-compression)that converts to a LPCM in
the BURN Process(DigitalStereo-2.0)<<<---really nice.

Also, in Google Groups...
Just to the right of the poster's name and
date you will see, "show options"...this will
give you an option to print the individual
message.

Also on the MS Community Newsgroups site...
When a message is selected you will see
a small "Print post" icon at the upper left of the
view screen that will print the individual message.

If you have a pop-up stopper enabled, you may
have to hold your Ctrl key while clicking the icon.
