When you get to the page where they ask how you want to save, choose DV-AVI
(NTSC).

The file will be enormous.

How do I get Movie Maker to save as a .avi instead of a .wmv? I'm using
Snapfish and they won't upload any .wmv, only .avi.

Thanks

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Thanks to both of you but I was trying to get the video smaller, not larger.
LOL It's from my digital camera and is an .avi to start but when I try to
save it, I can't. Is there any other way to reduce the size and still save
it as a .avi file?

Thanks

Checking the Snapfish website only states the
file must be MOV, AVI, 3gp or MPG and no
longer than 10 minutes. File (memory) size is
not mentioned. You can use Movie Maker to
split the video if it's too long.

Thanks John, I guess I'll have to find another site to put the .wmv videos on
then.

I appreciate your help.

My point was...if the file is an .avi...
or if you convert it to an.avi...and it's
no longer than 10 minutes you should
be able to upload it to Snapfish.

If all you wish to do is upload the file
so someone else can download it...
the following site may be useful.

Good luck.

John, I understand your point, but what I was trying to do was reduce the
size of the file so that some friends on dial-up can view the file without
having to wait forever. I'm on cable and average about 22Mbs and it still
takes a while for the video to load. I'm just trying to make it easy for my
friends who don't have broadband. When I saved the video as a DV.AVI, it
swelled to over 200MB. LOL

Ok...you could upload the .wmv to YouTube.

Thanks John, I've also found that Putfile will take .wmv. I'm waiting for my
friends to get back to me about how long it took to view the original files
at Snapfish and will then make my decision.

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.

Bit late, but avi is just a file wrapper and can contain any number of file
types, I'm suprised they don't specify. divx/xvid are some of the smaller
better quality sorts, but you can have mpeg1/2/4, mjpeg and the larger dv
and even raw super large!!!!

Thanks Graham for the info. I guess all the friends I e-mailed didn't have a
problem with the larger files so I'll just leave it. I also put it on
another site so they have a choice. LOL

Have a great day.
