Saving and Restoring an Outlook Profile

In our environment, it's a common fix to just rebuild (via RIS) a machine
when it's having an issue. (I don't advocate that, but I don't make the
rules...) We have many users that have Outlook profiles with many resource
calendars, etc. on their Outlook bar. When a machine is rebuilt, the
Outlook profile needs to be recreated. This is aprocess that most of the
users have no clue about. Is there an easy way to save an Outlook profile
and "re-apply" it after the machine is rebuilt? (We don't use roaming
profiles either.) Thanks.

Jerry

This is a good time to consider roaming profiles though. For several issues
we also "just RIS" the problem out of the machine.

You can also create a prf-file that automatically configures the mail
profile when executed (can be by (logon)script as well). You can create a
prf-file by using the Custom Installation Wizard contained in the Office
Resource Kit

So I guess the short answer is "No" ?

Full roaming profs aren't an option. Can the RK tool be used by the team
that RIS's to "save off" the existing profile to a prf and then execute it
after a RIS?

The other thought was to redirect just the Application Data directory to a
server... Any thoughts on that?

No, is the short answer if the rest isn't an option.

You can use the Save My Settings Wizard which is in the Office folder in the
Startmenu but it will do more harm then good.

Redirecting the Application Data directory won't do you any good as not all
settings are stored there; they are also in the registry.

Why aren't roaming profiles an option?

I don't know why the roaming profs aren't an option. I'm new on the team
here and they are dead set against it. Lots of politics here. What can you
do?

Will the RK tool work, though? I've never played with it.

Thanks.

Afraid for change, don't know how to use it... who knows? ;-) Gives you an
opportunity to pick it up.

Yes, the prf-file works like a charm. You can even use the %username%
variable so you only have to create one prf-file

Outlook Profiler is the way to go here.
