I am unable to save the slide show to either my computer, a CD, or a DVD.
Neither can I bring it up through Media Player. I am told that format is
incorrect or that there is a problem with the source file. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you need to convert your
source files to a compatible format:

Have a look at the following articles:

the file ext on my project is mwmm. Media player will not accept this. As
you can tell I am quite technically challenged. How can I change the file to
an acceptable format

..mswmm is a Movie Maker project file and is only
useful in Movie Maker for re-editing the project...
it is not a Movie file.

You need to re-open the .mswmm file in Movie Maker
and save it in the .wmv Movie format...then you can play
it in Windows Media Player.

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
