Has anyone run into this problem? I'm trying to save a PowerPoint file
created in XP down to 97. So I do a save as "97,2002,95" and the
resulting file is gigantic! My proginal XP file is 2 megabytes. The
saved down file is about 75 megabytes - yikes!

Does anyone know the cause of this? It's a simple deck, no animations
or transitions. Some graphics pulled in but nothing extremely large or
complex.

Thanks in advance,

Art

When you do that you are saving it in all versions and PowerPoint 95 didn't
compress files so the file size zooms up. No need to save it that way unless
you need to open it in PowerPoint 95. PowerPoint 97-2003 all use the same file
format.

The file format for PowerPoint 2003, 2002, 2000, and 97 is the same so
you don't want to save "down to" 97. That feature basically saves two
copies of the file one for 97-2003 and the other for 95. The 95 version
has very little compression.

What you want to do is either open the file in 97 without doing anything
special (like "saving down"), or go to the Tools menu, choose options,
and click on the Edit tab. From there, look for Disable New Features to
make sure that you don't use some of the new features that won't work in
previous versions.
