John has provided you with links to all you need in terms of software and
knowledge.
In a nutshell, you have made a "data" DVD, which no conventional DVD player
hooked up to a TV will understand.
You still need to run your finished WMV file through a video
editing/authoring software program that will create DVD's that will play in
conventional DVD players. These software programs convert the standard video
format files (ie: MPEG, WMV, AVI, etc.) into .VOB .IFO .BUP etc. files that
contain the instructions a DVD player needs to play a movie, chapters, menus
etc .
So the bottom line is, you will have to purchase a video editing/authoring
software program that will create more than just "data" DVD's.
If the software you used to make the "data" DVD is capable of making VCD's
or SVCD's, (MPEG1 quality), then you could create CD's (not DVD's) in either
of those formats that should play in your DVD player. Check the manual of the
DVD player to make sure it will play VCD's or SVCD's before you make
something it won't play.
If you do purchase DVD authoring software, check the manual of your DVD
player to find out what type of DVD media it will play. (ie: +R -R +RW -RW).
Then you'll need a burner that will burn that type as well.
Finally, you will need patience, video editing takes time.
Good luck!
