Saving a file with AutoText

All, if anyone can help with this it would be greatly
appreciated.

I have a user on a network who gets his (Office2000)
Normal.DOT from the network. In the template directory
(from the network) he also uses a file that does a mail
merge with AutoText. When he tries to save information in
the AutoText file (on the nework) it is NOT allowing him
to change the file yet it will allow him to make changes
to another (different) file. He is using OfficeXP on the
local tablet pc.

When we've tried to copy the template file locally to the
pc it gives a path error when trying to change the
information in the AutoText file.

Does this sound like a permissions issue when he's on the
network?
Again, if anyone has any idea it would be greatly
appreciated!!

Thank you
Kd

I'm a little confused here. AutoText is saved in templates (it can't be
saved in documents). By default, it is saved in Normal.dot. But if users are
using Normal.dot on the network (a terrible idea, BTW), then presumably it
is read-only, so AutoText could not be saved in it. Users would therefore
need a separate template for saving their own custom AutoText entries.
Ideally, this would be a global template (placed in Word's Startup folder)
so it would be available to all documents. For AutoText entries to be saved
to this template, it must be selected in the AutoText dialog when the entry
is created.
