I was uploading pictures from my camera and while it was doing that, it said
that the file name already existed did i want to save over, well instead of
clicking no, I hit yes. Is there any way to retrieve these pictures?

As Tom said, you are SOL.
You should learn that a digital cameral numbers the picture files.
When you empty the memory chip and start a new batch of pictures, the same numbers are used again.
If then transfer these pictures to your hard drive, in the same folder as the previous ones, the old
files will be replaced with the new files of the same number (name).
You need to learn to make a new folder on your hard drive for each download.

Another reason for having backup files ;-)

That doesn't happen here. The sequential number is updated. The result
must be down to the software being used.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer used here.

Try reformatting the memory card and see if the numbers aren't reset.

I was actually referring to the OP's problem of overwriting previous
filenames in reference to your comment "That doesn't happen here. The
sequential number is updated. " It would happen if the card is reformatted.
