save windows update

I have a vista home basic on my laptop. I have been update it several times.
now I want to reinstall the windows and go back to my laptop's factory
configuration.the question is: how can I save my updates? I don't want to
spend hours to get those updates again.Is there any solution to save those
updates while reinstall the windows?

If you have actual WIndows Vista install disks, yes. If you have a
"recovery" disk provided with your laptop purchase, no.

The OEM recovery disks set everything back, including all programs and
you will lose programs you have installed since - though your data
should be preserved.

What are you trying to do/accomplish? There might be another way with
a boot CD or something to allow you to repair whatever it is that
needs repair.

It looks like you need torrent to download the recovery center

WRONG!!!!

Everything gets set back to out-of-the-box condition. NOTHING is
saved.

Wishful thinking I guess, or memory lapse. Thanks for the correction

It may be possible to reinstall Vista while preserving your programs and data
by doing an in-place upgrade using the Vista recovery disk.

I did this prior to installing SP1, because my original Vista installation
had become corrupted (though not inoperable). An MS support engineer advised
me to do it, and it worked well. I used Dell's OEM recovery disk to do it.

Be sure to choose "upgrade", not Repair or Reinstall, when the opportunity
arises. And DO be sure to back up your data first, in case of disaster. The
option was intended for situations where you are upgrading from Windows XP to
Vista, but you can upgrade from Vista to Vista also - it doesn't care.

Some caveats:
1. It takes a long time - say 2 - 3 hours.
2. You would need to re-install all updates to Vista, but the "easy" way to
do this is install SP1, which contains all prior Windows updates.
3. If you have used Windows backup and restore to backup your files, you
will need to use Advanced Restore to get at them if you need to do any
restoring, and choose to find "backups made on another computer", since your
computer will be treated as "new", with its reinstalled operating system.
 
Joaneee, a recobery disk from OEMs like dell, HP, etc does NOT allow what you
say.
They put it back to factory standards; you lose everything.

What you are talking about is an original MS disk, whether OEM or Retail;
most buyers of a new computer DON'T have them.!

To the original question didn`t answer nobody...

U can or u can not save the updates, what ur bloody vista downloaded for
somewhere?

And if u find maybe.., u could install them to the "new" system ?

on the XP the files were stored in c:\windows\software
distribution\download\ folder and if u saved this folder -u 65% could
reinstall and not needed to download again.

In the vista is still the same folder but nothing inside what u could save -
or install , or anything.

And yes is good if save the SP1 and will update your system, and download
more hundreds of megabytes.

Im using a mobile usb modem -- and not just bloody slowly, but have a
monthly limit -- thats the reason about the original question.
