Can you save settings in the Powerpoint "insert Picture"
window? When I open the window, it defaults to listing the
files as "Thumbnails". I would like to see them listed
as "Preview" (so that I can see the listing of the files I
can also see a preview of the jpg). I can do change it
alright, but when I cl;ose the "insert Picture" window,
and open it back up, it defaults back to displaying the
Thumbnails listing of the files.

There is no way to change this (unfortunately).

I'd recommend 2 things:

1- Check this site for ways to change the location of my pictures

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

It sounds like you are using PowerPoint 2002 or earlier. This behavior
cannot be changed in those versions.

This behavior has changed in PowerPoint 2003 (actually Office System 2003
since this is a shared feature across all of Office), which remembers your
view settings in this dialog instead of always returning to the thumbnail
view.
