Save prompt for Normal.dot

I tried the search, but anything that resembles my question says something about the
community-something isn't available...anyways...

New installation of Word 2003 under XP Home.
I open Word, then turn around and close it. I get prompted to save Normal.dot. If I respond No,
I get a SaveAs dialog. Cancel that and the 'Changes to the global settings' type box pops up.
Cancel that and back to a blank Word screen, no document. I can then exit Word.

This always happens whether I create a document and save it or not.

Your Word might have locked up your computer at one time and your normal.dot
file is locked. Close Word, open Windows Explorer, do a file search for
"~$normal.dot". If you find it, delete it. Try opening and closing Word
again to see if it is fixed. As far as having changes to normal.dot, there
shouldn't be any unless you have some sort of page numbering automatically
on every document. You might want to try pressing ALT-F11 to enter the VBE
window, open your "normal" project at the top left to see if there are any
macros or code in your template. If so (and you don't know what they are),
you might want to remove them.

Keep in mind that there is a setting under "Tools", "Options", Save" TAB.
You can uncheck the "Prompt to save normal template" option if you want
(which I do), but you need to be quite safe with your Word to make sure you
aren't opening documents with malicious code that might get saved into your
global template. Since I have my macro security setting at Medium, I won't
open anything with code unless it is mine or I know what it is.

Hope this helps!
