I'm going to have to upgrade Win2000 to WinXP Pro. I've already got Outlook
2003 on it. We're planning on a clean install.

How do I save my contacts, personal folders, email rules, etc.? Can I save
them to a disc and then backup onto the new install?

Thanks.

Thanks for the help.

I'm using Outlook 2003, so I start with the .pst files. It seems that
copying those will take care of the emails, contacts and the folder issue.

But, I see listings for things like rules wizards, .rwz. I really want to
save those. Do I have to find and save those individually or is that also a
part of .pst in the newer Outlook versions? I really want to save my rules.

Thanks.

The file you need to back up is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's
where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup:

Rules are now saved with the PST. You'll just need to step through them to
reset them to your PST file's new location.

OK, thanks. I'll find and save my current .pst to a cd; install the new os,
and then Outlook.

Once that's done, I copy the saved .pst to an easy to find location in My
Documents; then find the file in the default location and name it .old. Open
Outlook and when the warning message appears, navigate to the safe area.

Once that's done, I need to reset the wizard rules. Do I simply use the
"run rules now" command, or do I need to use the "edit rule settings" command
to find and click on each folder?

Once you have successfully designated your former PST file as your default,
just use Tools > Rules and Alerts... to step through each rule. That will
reset each rule to your new PST location.
