save changes to table layout in Access

In an Access table I changed column sizes, moved columns, etc. When I closed
the table, Access asked if I wanted to save the table layout changes. I said
yes. When I reopened the table (within a few seconds) the layout changes were
gone and the original layout was displayed.
 
Yes, it's true that Access sometimes asks whether you want to save layout
changes for a table, but doesn't really save them. Access tables are not
really meant to be used heavily for viewing and formatting. Forms (and
reports) are much better for that.
