I save my questions on the notepad to post later. when I get to the "Save As" window it won't accept names. "Questions" or any other name, is not an acceptable name and have to name it a number such as "1". When I try to rename it on the desktop,(I can't have a desktop full of numbers) I'm told "if you proceed the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?". I chose to rename and it changed from a notepad to a file and I had to fill the circle that said "choose from a list", and pick notepad to view my page. This is too much and is a new development. I've always had the unaccepted name problem in the "save as" window half of the time, but I could allways rename them on my desktop.

Just curious, when you go to Save As, are you somehow
deleting the .txt extension?

Notepad should save as a .txt extension.

When saving *.txt comes up, replace JUST the asterisk *
not the .txt.

For example, you want to save as "Questions",
it should appear as Questions.txt

Maybe your file association for .txt is listed incorrectly.

Try this:
Find a .txt file, whatever.txt | Right click |
Properties | Opens with: | Should show Notepad |
If not | Change button | Find and highlight Notepad |
Make sure  "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file" is checked | OK |
Apply | OK
