"Save as" Where to change target

Thanks in advance for support this Group. You're the best.

Can the target be changed for "Save As" easily and is this an individual
application change.

I've grown to liking the use of Desktop, instead of sending all to "My Documents".
The housekeeping is manditory here and the tendency to forget the importance isn't
lost nearly as much as it is after stashing tons of valueable information into My
Documants, where it would have been collated into folders in an orderly fashion,
when time permits and moved from the Desktop.

Thanks again,
don

I believe that it's up to the application to decide if it will default to
your "personal" path, a path it decides on its own, or a path that you can
specify. Any application that does not allow one to specify a default save
path is weak! :]

Word and Excel both allow you to change the default folder in Tools >
Options. I don't use Powerpoint, so I can't address that. OE has a mind of
its own, sort of.

Well, for an easy example using OE in Ng's to "save as" where do you start?
Registry?

thanks,
:-)

In the Registry do a search for "Personal" whole word and you will find
a couple of locations where "My Documents" is the specified location.
That makes it the default for quite a few things. Otherwise just hit the
pulldown in Save As location and click on "Desktop"

OE has some bug where it seems to always chop off the last character in the
save path where it's stored in the registry. Like, if you last saved to
C:\Directory, if you look in the registry, it'll be C:\Director. So then it
just defaults to your personal path as it cannot find that directory.
