hi,

why when i right click a ppt file, there is no 'save as' feature?.
appreciate some help.

You are required to open the file in PowerPoint, then click File > Save as
from there.

i have check with 3 of my friend's computer and all of them has this
capability of right-cliking the file and the 'save as' feature is available.

I don't have this feature when right clicking on a file
I got it if the file is opened, in FIle/Save as

I don't have this 'save as' feature on my computer either.

Perhaps this 'feature' was installed to the 'shell' of your computer by some
third party add-in software.?

cheers

using my friend's pc, i can 'save-as' by right clicking the ppt file without
actually opening the file.

This is probably a Windows issue. What version of Windows are you using,
and what versions are your friends using?

We use Windows XP and Office XP. I tried the right-click on a ppt file on
the desktop and on the C: drive and do get the Save As option. Oddly, when I
choose it, I get the option to save as a PPT2007 Macro Enabled file. And I
don't have 2007. I changed file name and saved. Saves as pptm. So it does
happen...not sure what purpose it would serve but I can replicate what
Teratak is speaking of.

I also get the 'save as' in XP with '03 & '07 installed that allows me to
save to the other version - that is pptx can save as ppt and ppt can save as
pptx or pptm. Don't have the option on my Vista box with '07 installed.

So, looks like it is a way to convert to other version...
