When I save a movie (little over 3 minutes) it has some
skips in it when played back.

DELL Inspiron 8600 - 1.4 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB HD (6 GB
Free).

What might be causing this? It was working fine last week.

Hi there,

My first comment is that it's probably time to get a
second hard disk for you video storage.

The second comment is that your PC is similar to my
wife's -- and -- she has the same problem, yet I do not
have that problem on my PC, which has essentially the
same config profile (and Win update levels) except that
the clockspeed is 2.6GHz.

Depending on your ultimate viewing objective for this
movie (PC; VCD; DVD; EMail; etc) you should first
determine if the skip issue is associated with the
creation process or the playback process. Try saving it
as an EMail file (the most highly "compressed" format...
about 90%) and see if it skips (drops frames) during
playback, if so then the problem likely has to do with
the creation process.

Well I haven't tried playing it back on a different system
but I'd think 1.4 GHz, w/512 MB would be sufficient. Also
something that makes me think it's an encoding problem is
that it always skips at the same places clip-to-clip
changes with or without a transition (fade) specified.

It's very noticeable in one place where I have about 4
copies of a single 1/2 second clip back to back (1/2
second loop). I created a 30 second test project to try
and recreate this but it encoded and played back fine.

BTW the skip is occurring in the second (Audio/Music)
track.

Since saving is not a real-time play back I'd think CPU
speed (within reason) and disk space (so long as there is
enough) shouldn't be an issue.
