After searching Google, I see that I'm not the only one who'd like to be
able to control the view settings in my file open and save dialogs. The
standard Microsoft answer seems to be "that's by design." Why would they
design something that can be customized but not allow those customizations
to be saved for the next session? It sounds crazy to me, and I can't
believe all of the MVPs keep a straight face as they type out "that's by
design" every time with no further attempt at explanation.
I know this problem can be fixed, because there's a shareware program called
DlgXRSizer that, among other things, fixes the ability to save the view
preferences. I'm guessing that it's possible to fix this through the
registry, but no one has publicized it yet. If anyone out there has
defeated Microsoft's scheme to drive us crazy with the Save dialog, please
post the solution here.
Thanks,
Ted
