SATA with PATA

My question . . . (okay, that's not much of a segue)

I'm upgrading a user to a Dell 9100, which has SATA drive connections
plus 2 PATA CD-ROMS attached to the motherboard EIDE connector.

In his old PC, he has a second hard drive, which is, of course, PATA.

For $26, I can purchase an adapter (from startech) to hook up the old
drive to the 9100 SATA.

Will the old drive hurt/hinder performance of the SATA drive? Any
better alternatives?

Thanks for any input

Nope.

Add another SATA drive for not much more if you are into rebates.

Should not.

Don't use these adapters. I have made bad expeience with several
different ones. I would advise to copy over the installation to a SATA
drive, if you really need the disk connected to SATA. Alternatively
I would add a PCI IDE controller fro the old disk.
