SATA vs IDE HD problem

Hi,

Just upgraded to AMD 2800+, A7N8X board, and Seagate
80g SATA drive running XP Pro. I can't get XP to see the
IDE drive although the bios (recently upated) does see
it. I've tried different settings such as
slave/master/cable select on the primary IDE channel. So
when I boot up, sometimes the system keeps rebooting and
sometimes it will start very slowly but still not see the
drive. I thought it might be a boot sequence issue
(floppy/cd/HDD0)with the SATA drive being drive 0. The
first partition of the IDE drive contains the OS from my
old system. Any ideas? Thand very much.

If the slave is physically disconnected does yr sys then boot and run
correctly?
If it doesnt you need to rectify that first.

Hi David,

The IDE is physically disconnected from the system
now and the XP is running normally. I wonder I if set it
up as a secondary slave whether that will do the trick.
When I hook up the IDE I get either the system running
very slowly or it keeps rebooting before it gets to the
OS.

Thanks, Pete

Assuming you dont need the o/s data on the primary partition of yr old disk,
are you able to boot the machine and reformat/delete this partion. Or
perhaps boot from the disk to do this, ensure you are working on the correct
partition if doing this

Thanks David, I think that I'll boot to DOS and use
pqmagic to reformat the first partition and see where
that takes me. I appreciate your advice! Thanks.
