I've always used ata drives. I recently built a new box and put in
SATA2 western digital drives. They're the same basic model as the
ATA versions in my other box.

Frankly they seem distinctly slower in response than the ATA drives.
Are they STILL using ATA drives with sata converter add on
circuitry?

Boy those marketing guys can sure snow the world with their
bullshit.

No. And where the external converters worked, at least some of
them did not slow down the drives. You likely have some other
problem.

That they can. Don't listen to professional liars, e.g. marketing
people, politicians, preachers, ...

Are the other components of the two boxes identical apart from that ?

No evidence of that with the full tests in say storagereview.com

Nope.

Or you are assuming the difference between the two boxes
is due to the drives when it may well be due to something
else thats different between the two boxes instead.
