sata vs. ata HD

seems like i'm going to have to get a new HD, I want to know from those who
have a sata, can you tell the difference or is it about the same? is it
worth buying

You should replace with an IDE if your board does not support SATA.

If your board does support SATA, sata is usually faster than IDE.
 
RAID can be done with any type of drive with the right controller. You also
have to understand that a four drive RAID 0 array (the fastest in your
example) is playing with fire. If any drive in the array fails you lose all
the data on all the drives.
 
A Labtest is not indicative of a real time user test.
The avarage user will probably see no discernable improvement.
