Hi

I want to connect a SATA hard drive to an older IDE motherboard.
Anyone know where I can get a aconverter?

I've seen plenty which convert IDE drives to SATA, but not the other
way round.

Seems like a waste to put a modern drive on an obsolete machine but if you
feel that you must, why not just buy a cheap PCI SATA controller card and
forget about the IDE controller on the MB?

Good call on the card, but wouldn't it be a bigger waste to buy an old PATA
drive that you wouldn't be able to make use of on your next PC?

Possibly. Depends on how long the machine is meant to last, how often you
shuffle all your components around making new machines, what sort of price
you get on a PATA, how much an interface card costs, what sort of
performance you need, and what sort of drives are already sitting around.
I'd be more inclined to extract a spare PATA from one of my older machines
to use with an old MB and use the money saved toward a bigger and better
SATA drive for a machine that already has the interface but that's just me
and maybe the OP doesn't have a junk box to fall back on.
