I've seen them on the web but don't know where or even what they're called
right now. Can someone steer me right?
Thanks,

Tim said:If you want to plug a SATA drive into a computer that has only IDE
connectors then get a SATA controller.
If you have an IDE raid controller and want to plug a SATA drive into it,
DONT.
IE don't get converters where you have a choice, next time you get a disc
problem you will always come straight back to it and wonder if it works
properly.
The only one I would consider is PATA to SATA for single disc drives in IDE
mode and then only if desparate.

What I want to do is take an IDE ATA drive and plug it into the SATA
controller.
I think I've found what I'm looking for.
sister said:I have the "***Highpoint RocketHead" adapter which allows ATA drives
to connect to Sata controlers. My motherboard is Asus P4P800d (intel
Sata ICH5) and although the adapters work in single drive mode
(non-raid), they will not work properly if you try to run a raid
config in the bios. I'm not sure why and I am in contact with
Highpoint on this issue which is yet to be resolved.
Because I can only run single drives with the ***adapter, I thought I
would run some benchmarks with the same drive connected to default ATA
controler. My tests with "SisSoftSandraPro2003" produced a marginal
gain on the Sata controler but there seems to be a trade off****... so
depending on what you want to accomplish, you may want to consider
this.
Sata controler with "Highpoint RocketHead" adapter and HDD:
- 29645
memory:
- 4337 / 4341
-----
Ata controler and same HDD:
- 29558
memory:
- 4369 / 4346
Hmm, I just got two of them puppies today. I also have the p4p 800 deluxe, and was going to do the raid thing also.
I'll give it a "smoke test" in a couple of days when I get the time & let ya know.

I would like to do just the opposite: plug a SATA drive into an IDE
controller. I don't think any adapters work this way but I might be
wrong. Does anyone know if such an adapter is available?
