SATA RAID problem P5GDC-V Desluxe

The board has 4 SATA-connectors, 2 red marked MASTER, 2 black marked
SLAVE.
As written, I connected one disk on a red and one disk on a black
connector, installed RAID, installed XP, all fine and very fast.

Now I want to install a third SATA-disk, as a single, stand-alone
disk, for use as a backupdisk.
But whether I connect it to the red or the black connector, the BIOS
won't find it. The disk is OK, and works fine on another system.

All help with be appreciated!

By some experimenting i solved the problem.
The third HD (backupdisc) has a jumper marked PM2, it's for Power
Management according to Westernd Digital. I removed it and the system
works fine, although I don't know why :-)

SATA does not have Master or Slave drives.

They have a 'first' and 'second' (and sometimes a third / fourth...) drive
neither of which is any more important or different from the other - so long
as they are actually on the same controller.

I suggest you start by reading the manual and studying the layout of the
motherboard and identify which ports you have actually plugged the drives
into, what controllers they are hanging off and if you have a problem with a
3rd drive then by all means post back.

One of the more common mistakes with SATA is people assuming they have
plugged drives into Controller XXX when they aren't - they have plugged them
into Controller YYYY. It is important to know which controller they are
plugged into as this will confirm which controller in the BIOS needs to be
enabled, what type of setting to use (see manual), and what driver will be
needed to make it work.

Since you managed to get RAID going OK I have no doubt that you will get
through this quite easily :)
