Hello all users.
I am still looking for anyone who has used the Plextor 716SA DVD burner
(SATA connection). I really need some input as to how it handles the
various formats and if the drive is as reliable as their IDE
counterparts. I have owned two Plextor CD drives and have had
extremely good luck with both of them. This will be my first purchase
of a DVD burner and this drive is about $40.00 more than a comparable
IDE drive with the same specs. According to Plextor my motherboard
(Intel 915PBL---it has 4 SATA connectors) can accommodate this drive.

Get it, try it, if don't like - return it.

Gosh!----that reply was so helpful----I wil consult you on all my
future questions!

You've asked this several times--unless you luck into someone who has one
you're not going to get a better answer than you have gotten so far.

Personally I've never found any need for an SATA DVD drive and would wait
for the serial ATAPI standard to go through another iteration or two before
buying one absent urgent need.

Later this year Intel will release chipsets with ICH8, which has 6 SATA and 0 PATA.

The reviews I've read state that there is no real life benrfit to Plextor's
SATA optical drive other than getting rid of the wide data cable.
