Based on what I've read so far, 128GB is the max capacity for a drive on
Win2K.

Is 128GB the formatted capacity or the raw capacity? (It makes a
difference - a 120GB drive formats down to around 80GB.)

Any opinions on the best 128GB SATA (low temps, quiet, high performance,
reliability, etc.)?

Incorrect
120gb formats to approx 115gb

There have been a number of reviews, Samsung has received good press

I read your answer and the link you provided.

Re: THE ANSWER

I refer you to the link I provided for the Samsung SP1213C where the
manufacturer states that this 120GB SATA drive formats down to 80GB.

Re: LINK

While the Micro$oft KB link is useful for one who wishes to install a larger
drive than I, it doesn't specifically state whether the 137GB limitation is
a FORMATTED capacity or an UNFORMATTED capacity. It states simply that Win2K
has a problem with:

"A computer with a hard disk that has a capacity of greater than 137
gigabytes (GB)."

Unless, of course, I missed the word UNFORMATTED or FORMATTED somewhere in
that diatribe.

If you check the Samsung site they give the same capacity for all the C
series Spinpoint Drives ie 80gb this is incorrect, on the link you gave
there is no refference to unformatted capacity
I have 2* SP1614C unformatted 160gb formatted 150gb, in an array
The SP1213C unformatted120gb I would expect to format to 110gb approx

If you try to Format a large hd, in Win2K or XP for that matter that doesnt
have 'BigLBA' enabled it will not format larger than 137gb - though the disk
and apps will function.
