Hey,

I'm rapidly running out of space on this 80GB HDD SATA-I drive, and i was wondering if i would be able to buy a similar drive to what i've got now?

And whether SATA-II is backwards compatible with SATA-I controllers, as i haven't fully grasped the understanding for SATA-II.

Chris,

Yes, SATA II drives are backwards compatible - but you'll lose some of the new speed/features obviously. 200GB drives are only about £65-70 now.

You know I want to just want to ask a question.... Isn't the computer industry going too fast?? I mean how long has SATA I been out?? I still havn't got one of those yet... and now it seems I may never... will have to jump straight to SATA II just to keep up with what comes next.

Cheers Ian :)

I'm going to check out OCUK for an order on Tuesday, getting new case, psu, and a new hard drive, i've got to make this pc quieter as it's sounding like a steam train...

SATA III is going to be out soon ;)

I have to say I'm real upset... I understand the demand for these products... newer more advanced hardware is needed for a lot of our industries.. I'll say mainly for militarty purposes and also things like internet servers and graphic design. But its so rapid that by the time you have found the product.. obtained and installed it... there is already something better on the market... how can a consumer ever feel satisified... or maybe thats the point.

New graphics cards come out in 6 months cycles, sometimes shorter, whereas the games they are running don't use the new technology much if at all. Sata 1 hasn't been fully used to it's potential and i doubt sata 2 will be either, but at this moment in time the hard drive manufactureres are not close to using sata 2 properly, so while the industry is sky rocketing along, the actual market for these new items is often lagging behind.

Hmmm. That was confusing. I know what im saying, but does anyone else? Answers on a postcard...
