Ive only just heard about SATA drives while looking to buy a new hdd and Im
aware Ive got a couple of interfaces on the m/b that will take it. At the
moment Ive a 20 and 40 GB drive on one cable and a couple of CD drives on
the other.
Ive had a quick look round the www for info but what Ive found is aimed at
tech specs and speed comparisons.
Im not that techy and not really into complicated fudges to get something
working properly

I believe that sata allows you more than the standard 4 ide drives and they
use different leads from "the norm" for both power and data bus.

Re power supply.
Ive a new case/ps which has the "usual" large and small 4 pin ones that are
used on normal hdds and floppys but there are an extra couple that Ive no
idea about - a small square plug and something that's similar to the m/b
power supply.(Id love to know what theyre for) If these are no good, do
drives come with cable adapters? Does anyone out there yet have a power
supply with these fitted as standard?

Re installation
Further down the thread list, I noticed Phut was having problems setting up
the a7n8x for booting up. If he's reading this, or if anyone else out there
is using sata, did you resolve your problems and is there a defined set of
steps for setting up m/b correctly. (Im using one of first versions of the
mb)

thanks in advance

I think there is a new standard for hard drive powr plugs, but not sure of
how they look as I cant recall where I read it and cant remember everything
I see.
